It all started in 1945 when a 58-year old P.V. Ramaswamy Chettiar, weaver by profession ventured into the clothing business in a small town called Ponnani.Chettiar along with his wife Smt.Veerammal started selling hand-woven veils and bath towels. Their passion and craftsmanship fuelled along with their innovative skills led Ramsons Dhotis to great heights. From a humble home-business to a group of businesses across several cities in Kerala, Ramsons have grown multi-fold.
The couple’s eldest son Sri.R.Dharmalingan joined them in the business and was instrumental in taking it to the next level. His efforts enabled Ramsons to scale their business across the Malabar region including Kozhikode, Kannur and Wayanad within a short span of time. Sri.R.Dharmalingan joined business at the tender age of 15 and dedicated his efforts towards expanding the business. His strides led to Ramsons cater to over 80% of the Malabar region.
As they were marching ahead with new ventures, Chettiar’s second son – Sri.R.Dhakshinamoorthy joined them and launched an all new Finance division in the Ramson’s group called “Sri Muruga Gold and Finance”. This propelled the growth of Ramson’s group to the leagues in Kerala and his tireless efforts led to the launch of Ramsons Fashion Jewellery in 1993. The fashion business then moved to Thiruvilwamala, Thrissur and is currently known as Ramsons Jewellers. The business just completed 25 years of its operation in 2018, celebrating their Silver Jubilee.
Within a decade since its establishment, Ramsons group had already become a family name in North Kerala. Chettiar’s younger sons – Sri.R.Venugopalan and Sri.R.Shanmugharaj then entered the business and helped the group spread to Southern Kerala – an unexplored Ramsons territory.
Ramsons group quest for innovative and trustworthy products led to them to make 100% cotton dhotis in high quality thread – till date. Their designs and quality are unparalleled along with their wide range of clothing that includes Sarees, Set-Mundus and Churidhars. Apart from spanning across the state of Kerala, Ramsons now have four exclusive showrooms in Cochin International Airport – spreading their business and the Indian culture far and wide. From single retail markets to sprawling malls, Ramsons’ stores are present at over several spots in Kerala including Lulu Mall, Central Square Mall and Shoba City.
The business is currently spearheaded by the third generation of Chettiar’s family who are working constantly towards making Ramsons an International brand par excellence.
